It seems that who is disconnected from reality - and history - is Obama. U.S. was the first western state to promote independence based on self-determination, as it did in the Philipines. European and ICJ also recognizes referendum as a basis for state self-determination legitimacy. It may not please western powers what Stalin did, and it never rely on some sort of western simpathy, but facts on the ground cannot be ignored. If Stalin transfers result lead to same western powers claims, the way out better be face a deep reassesment what means to support humanitarian discourses totally dissociated from reality.
